What are your impressions of the Loner?
The Loner is a person with no friends, and, as his "name" suggests, lonely. Thus, he has only the playground wall as his friend. It is likely that he visits the playground wall often, and stands there with his back on the wall, protecting his only friend. He is rather paranoid and dependent, as he has his back facing the wall each time he is with it, probably wary of something. He also passes his time with “boredom beating tricks”; from tracing patterns with his feet, to scruffing them to make the tarmac squeak. This shows that he has no one else to play with. At the playground, where everyone is playing and having fun, he is left out and is at the wall, watching the other children play. From here, we may infer that he is longing to join the others to play at the playground. Other children pass by him, all in their familiar group of friends, gossiping about the Loner, as mentioned” in slow huddled groups, low talking. No one wants to make friends with him and they think that it is his own “problem”. They probably got rejected by him before, and after a period of time, given up hope on him. On the other hand, it might partially be the Loner’s fault. If he really longed to play with the other children, he could have made an effort to walk up to them and introduce himself. Who knows, the other children would have accepted him as a friend. Or he was probably rejected himself by previous erstwhile friends, and not want to experience that again.
“Watch this space.”
The Loner is a loyal friend and he takes care of his friend even when he has moved. He wants someone to take care and protect his friend, even when he has moved, and although he has no living friend, the Loner knows how to care for one.

What are your impressions of the other children?
The children at the playground are energetic and chirpy; the “beat is strong” and there is a lively rhythm around the playground. No matter what the severity of a situation is, “strife does not last long” and they are able to reconcile their differences and get along again. Everyone is participating in all the fun, all but the Loner. The other children are gathered together with their familiar friends, chatting and playing together.

In overall.....
If the Loner was a little less anti-social or more courageous, he could have made friends with the other children. We should understand that for whatever we get, there is a price to pay. As the saying goes “there’s no such thing as free lunch ”. We have to work hard for what we want and what we possess. Hence, we should work towards our goal and not just stay and wish and long for something to happen, as this is almost impossible in reality.
